What is FIRST?
FIRST is the international non-profit organization founded by inventor Dean Kamen to inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers and entrepreneurs. FIRST helps organize robotics teams and events for kids from age 6 to 18. FIRST runs a sport for the mind that rewards teamwork, real-world skills, and “gracious professionalism.”
What is the Chesapeake Regional FIRST Robotics Competition?
The Chesapeake Regional is one of 40 FIRST Robotics Competitions (FRC) held around the world. Champions from the Chesapeake Regional will advance to the FIRST World Championships in the Atlanta GeorgiaDome in April. The Chesapeake Regional will draw more than 50 high school FRC teams from 10 states, including more than 20 teams from Maryland.
What will I see at the Chesapeake Regional?
You'll see teams of robots cooperating in ever-changing alliances competing in two-minute matches throughout the two days. It's intense. It's loud. It's fun.
You'll see more than 1,000 great kids working together, stretching their limits, and building the foundation of tomorrow's engineers, scientists and business leaders.
You'll see hundreds of parents, mentors, judges and volunteers all helping make it work.
You'll see exhibits from our sponsors, universities offering scholarships, and demonstrations of our other programs, including the FIRST Tech Challenge, FIRST LEGO League and Jr. FIRST LEGO League.
How do I get in?
Attending the Chesapeake Regional is free and open to the public from 9am – 4pm on March 12 and 13. Come on in, take a seat in the grandstand and watch the fun. Ask for a guided tour from one of our Student Ambassadors.
